Burlington and Chittenden County are surprisingly accessible for such a relatively small and remote destination! By car, Interstate 89 travels up the eastern side of the state through wonderfully scenic terrain, then swings west into the greater Burlington area. Alternatively, US Route 7 travels the western side of the state, all the way from the Canadian border, through Burlington and Chittenden County, Vermont, and then down through southern Vermont and Massachusetts to Connecticut. From New York, a great way to travel to Vermont in the spring, summer and fall is via ferry across Lake Champlain: both you and your vehicle can embark in New York at Port Kent, Essex, or Plattsburgh, all of which place you close to the greater Burlington area when you arrive on the Vermont side.
By air, Burlington is serviced by Burlington International Airport, the third busiest airport in New England. Over 400,000 passengers travel through the airport annually, via commercial carriers including United, USAir, Jet Blue, Continental and Delta. There is direct service to most northeastern U.S cities, as well as Chicago and Washington DC, and international service via connection through major northeastern airports.
