The Chittenden County area has an incredible variety of recreational and cultural opportunities. For the sports minded and outdoor enthusiast, days are filled with skiing, golf, boating, hiking, biking, rock climbing, swimming, kayaking…and the list goes on and on. One of the Vermont's greatest assets is Lake Champlain, located on Vermonts western border, offering 110 miles of breathtaking beauty, world class fishing, fabulous boating, swimming and recreational opportunities galore. Chittenden County even boasts its own ski areas, Bolton Valley and Cochran Ski Area, and is only a short hop to many larger areas such as Stowe, Sugarbush, Mad River Glen and Smugglers Notch.
On the cultural side, Burlington's famous Flynn Theatre has an enormous variety of musical, theatrical, dance, family and comedy entertainment. In addition, the local colleges and universities offer a diverse group of concerts, speakers, forums, exhibits and lectures. Not to be missed is the world famous Shelburne Museum, known for its outstanding collection of Americana. The area is also host to many great festivals, such as the well known Jazz Fest in June, the summer Chew Chew food festival, the Art Hop and Arts Alive celebration, and First Night (a day long New Year's Eve celebration that envelopes the entire downtown area with music, dance and entertainment for all ages), as well as many additional cultural and recreational opportunities for all interests and ages.
